That’s right! Sorry I’m one of the biggest Eminem Stans out there so this is very exciting news. His most recent album “Marshall Mathers LP 2″ has officially moved 779,577 copies in the first week. Wait a few more days it’ll be platinum. Every time Em drops an album he goes platinum, just another testament to him being the greatest lyricist of all time.
Well would you look at that. Drake just dropped his album “Nothing was the Same” and the hit track “Hold on We’re Going Home” is already platinum (1 million digital purchases on iTunes). Oh and then Eminem who doesn’t even have an album out goes platinum with his most recent track “Berzerk” (in less than three months). Drake is killing it right now and is the talk of all rap music, but rappers better watch their release dates once Eminem drops his album. Mark your calendars, “Marshall Mathers LP is coming November 5th.
Drake really knows how to sell these albums. First by making great music and then second by having one hell of a marketing campaign. That whole “Just wait on it” tactic worked very well with “Nothing was the Same”. Drake topped the charts by selling 658,179 copies in the first week. Nothing might be the same, but Drake killing the charts is the same as always.
It seems like not too long ago we were reporting that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ hit single “Thrift Shop” went 4x platinum. Well those days are over because this just in today, the track has now reached the 5x Platinum mark. You know what that means, 5,000,000 people have purchased the song at this point. Congratulations to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on their amazing success, especially while staying independent. Everyone in Seattle is more than proud of these two and if they’re not then there’s some serious hater issues going on there.
It seems like it was only days ago that we found out about “Thrift Shop” going double platinum. Well those days are over because the song just went quadruple platinum! That’s right, over 4,000,000 copies sold at this point. Can’t wait to see how much further it’ll go in the next few months. Congratulations to both Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on such an amazing success. All this and it’s still independent music from Seattle.
Oh what the hell… Let’s hear it one more time!
It’s no surprise that A$AP Rocky’s album did very well selling 141,003 copies in the first week. He’s always had a core fan base that comes through for him and the album was an incredible piece of work. Even with the project leaking about a month early everything still went well on the sales chart to put A$AP Rocky at the top with “Long.Live.A$AP”.
5 months after surfacing on the internet, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ hit single “Thrift Shop” has gone platinum. Couldn’t be more proud of these guys putting on for Seattle and bringing a brand new sound to the rest of the world. Can’t deny that whenever this track comes on in the club everyone goes absolutely crazy. The song is currently number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Considering that Kendrick Lamar put out an album the same week taylor Swift put out “Red”, these numbers are incredible. Having a debut album sell over 100k is quite the accomplishment these days. “Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City” is currently sitting at 116,215 copies sold.
The numbers are in and Katy Perry has officially passed Michael Jackson for most number one hits on one album. She is now at 6 while Michael Jackson had 5. The song that moved up to #1 is “The One that Got Away” on the album “Teenage Dream”.
