Justin Verlander becomes Highest Paid MLB Pitcher

Justin Verlander just signed a new contract to stay with the Detroit Tigers that will give him $180 million over the next seven years. There is even an optional eighth year that would push the deal to $202 million. Verlander is now the highest paid pitcher in the MLB, surpassing Seattle’s very own Felix Hernandez who we signed for $175 million this February. Verlander tweeted, “I love this city & the fans – couldn’t be more excited to spend my career here! We’re going to bring a World Series to Detroit!!!”. $200 million can buy a lot of things, only time will tell if it will buy a World Series for Detroit.

Ray Lewis joining ESPN after Retirement

Even though Ray Lewis announced that he will be retiring at the end of this season, he won’t be out of work for long. Apparently he’s already in talks with ESPN about signing a multi-year deal. According to ESPN he will most likely start as an analyst on Monday Night Countdown and other NFL-related ESPN shows. Great news for Ray Lewis, he will definitely bring something new to the analyst table. Click HERE for more info.

Dwyane Wade signs with Li-Ning Shoes

Did not see this coming. Just a day after Wade’s Jordan contract expired he has apparently signed a contract with Chinese sneaker company Li-Ning. The statement has not been made official yet but be ready to hear some more news coming soon. Going from Jordan to Li-Ning though, don’t know how we feel about that look.

Deron Williams is Officially a Brooklyn Net ($98 Million Contract)

Deron Williams made it official tonight and has signed a 5-year $98 Million contract with the Brooklyn Nets. He had to sign the contract on his iPad since Team USA is currently practicing for the 2012 Olympics.

Blake Griffin Agrees to 5-Year Extension

According to ESPN a source at the Clippers has reported that All-Star Blake Griffin has agreed to a 5-year $95 Million deal with the team. Griffin had to take some time away from Team USA practice today to work on the contract.

Kevin Garnett Staying with the Celtics

Kevin Garnett had a lot of deciding to do after this past NBA season ended. He finally came to a decision yesterday and will be staying with the Celtics. Him and the team are currently working on a 3-year $34 Million extension contract. Good to see KG stickin’ with it, the game needs more players like him.

DJ Khaled’s Record Label signs to YMCMB

So what does YMCMB have like 300 artists on it now? Doesn’t make much sense but DJ Khaled’s “We the Best Music Group” just signed over to YMCMB and Ace Hood will be their firsts artist. Had no clue labels could sign to labels but when you’re Baby and Slim anything is possible. Look for some new YMCMB type of stuff coming out from Ace Hood, hopefully this helps DJ Khaled get some money back from that exploding bus incident.

Calvin Johnson Becomes Highest Paid Receiver in the NFL

Looks like Calvin “Megatron” Johnson just passed up Larry Fitzgerald as the highest paid receiver in the NFL. It was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that that Johnson just signed an 8-year $132 million contract with the Lions, $60 million guaranteed if he plays through the 2019 season. This passes Fitzgerald’s $120 million deal signed last year. For the entire story and video coverage click here.

Randy Moss is now a San Francisco 49er
