There’s no denying that KAWS takes the cake when it comes to figure/sculpture art. If you haven’t gotten into this yet, it’s a great art form to follow. They most recently revealed their giant companions at the Mary Boone gallery in New York. These giant sculptures were made out of wood and hovered over the entire crowd at the gallery. “OriginalFake has teamed up with Peanuts for the latest contemporary take on pop culture iconography from KAWS. This time around, the celebrated Brooklyn-based artist tackles Snoopy’s bird friend with a vinyl figure portraying Woodstock from Charles M. Schultz’s iconic comic strip. Complete with signature KAWS Companion-like details, the limited edition figure is set to drop in Japan this Saturday, December 22.”
“It’s been over half a year since we’ve seen a new non-collaborative toy release from KAWS and OriginalFake. But breaking the silence is a preview into an upcoming KAWS Companion release dubbed “Resting Place.” While the majority of toy releases from OriginalFake have occupied a vertical space through standing and posing characters, the “Resting Place” Companion takes a decidedly different approach. Few details accompanied the Instagram preview but stay tuned for a release date and details.”
The wax figure was made this past weekend and can be seen at the Madame Tussauds Museum in Berlin. They did a pretty good job because when I first saw the picture I thought it was the real thing.
