“Global Youth Project (GYP) is excited to announce the launch of the First Annual SEA-PAC CLASSIC & OUTREACH, featuring the “HOOPS FOR HOPE” Charity Basketball Tournament on Saturday August 18th, 9:00am-7:00pm at Seattle Pacific University Royal Brougham Pavilion. HOOPS FOR HOPE (H4H) will feature an eight-team basketball tournament. Each team will be from different locations throughout the city, primarily youth who are currently or formerly from targeted youth violence hotspots. The basketball festivities will create an atmosphere in which youth and adult mentors can work together to reduce violence. GYP will focus on supporting reconciliation and creating an environment for youth to grieve together, establish bonds with one another, and commit to becoming leaders in curbing gun violence in their communities.”
“This is a demonstration of hope. A youth organization, whose goals are to unify and commemorate those who have been lost or effected by violence, can come together to promote reconciliation and peace in our city. The impact of an annual citywide event is essential to counteract the growing problem of violence in Seattle. It is our hope to engage the youth culture of Seattle by initiating the 1st Annual SEA-PAC CLASSIC & OUTREACH featuring the HOOPS FOR HOPE basketball tournament to be held at SPU so youth can be exposed to a college campus and the possibility of a college education. YEEE!”

This player’s name is Landus Anderson and he plays basketball for Florida High in Tallahassee. He only has one arm and is averaging 19 points, 8 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 2.9 steals per game.
“I wish I could go right, go right with my right arm,” Anderson concedes. But he adds, “I think I’m pretty good how I am, with what I have. Still, he made the varsity lineup in his freshman year.“He gets the ball off the rim and is out and gone, running past people down the floor,” marvels Florida High coach Al Blizzard. “You’re not going to stop him in the open court, I don’t care what level you’re on.”

Remember when Gilbert Arenas got in trouble for playing with guns in the Wizards locker room? Well the other guy that was involved in that incident, Javaris Crittenton, is now wanted for murder after a 22-year-old female was shot dead in the streets of Atlanta. He is currently on the run and suspected to be in the Los Angeles area, pretty crazy news. Apparently the shooting was a retaliation from when Javaris was robbed in April. It was a drive by and one of the bullets struck the 22-year-old woman in the hip causing her death during surgery at the hospital. She was not the intended target. We’ll update you more as this story develops.
