There’s no denying that KAWS takes the cake when it comes to figure/sculpture art. If you haven’t gotten into this yet, it’s a great art form to follow. They most recently revealed their giant companions at the Mary Boone gallery in New York. These giant sculptures were made out of wood and hovered over the entire crowd at the gallery. When it comes to MTV’s top 10 “Hottest MC” list, a lot of people would argue that it’s all about buzz and has nothing to do with actual lyrical skill. It’s crazy to see rappers like Pusha T get beat out by people like Future and Meek Mill. Don’t get it twisted, they’re great entertainers, but if you’re going to name a list “Hottest MCs” then it should be all about their mic skills, not hype. Here’s the list from 10 to 5, more rankings coming soon.
#10: Meek Mill-
Meek Mill comes in at #10 and a lot of people were surprised at first because he beat out super lyrical Pusha T. Even though Meek Mill does have quite the buzz going right now and has for a while now, does he actually belong above some of the best lyricists in the game. Guess the list is based off hype and sales which is what Meek Mill has always had a lot of. There’s no denying that Meek’s also got one of the hottest mixtape series with “Dream Chasers” also.
Future is also one of those artists that definitely doesn’t belong on this list because of lyricism. He’s mainly on here because of all the features and hit singles that he’s been on. “Same Damn Time” was an anthem for a while which turned into a super-remix and took over every radio station. Now that he’s wanted for every feature just like T-Pain was back in the day, it makes sense that he’s on this list.
#8: A$AP Rocky-
Now here’s a selection we can definitely agree on. Even though A$AP Rocky may not be known for being a metaphorical or over-your-head type of rapper, he’s definitely got flow and freestyles on pretty much every radio show he makes an appearance for. The test of a true MC has always been a freestyle and you can always tell that A$AP Rocky goes off the top no pen, no pad, no written material. His Bone Thugz/Southern cadence is also something that a lot of rappers try to replicate these days but don’t come close to. We’re glad that he’s on this list and feel that he definitely deserves it.
#7: Kanye West-
It gets really confusing when MTV puts this list together and ends up putting legends in a not-so-high spot. We all know Kanye West is one of the greatest and most innovative MCs of all time, so it’s weird to see him at #7 amongst all these rappers. It’s good to see that he’s on the list because otherwise MTV has totally lost it, but we feel that his spot should have been much higher with songs like “Clique”, “Niggas in Paris”, “Mercy”, “God Flow” and many more.
#6: Big Sean
Here’s another placement we can definitely agree with. Big Sean has been snappin on pretty much every track he’s put out or is featured on. Sometimes when rappers get as famous as Big Sean you start to see them get too involved with the money and slow down lyrically, but he’s stepped it up to another level where most rappers can’t even think about going. It’s good to see a rapper getting better and better no matter how famous he gets. Can’t wait to hear Big Sean’s next album “Hall of Fame: Memoirs of a Detroit Player”.
“Started from the Bottom” alone could place Drake in this spot. Just when everyone was looking for a motivational anthem to start the year off right, Drake delivered. He’s also been on plenty of select features lately to maintain a buzz but the true test will come when he’s done working on his next album. Drake will always be up there with the hottest MCs in the game as he’s never let his fans down and has always delivered lyrically and metaphorically. You can always sense the underlying message behind every Drake song which is another very powerful aspect for any true MC.
Well Supra just hit us over the head with this one. They just showed this new Falcon “Desert” model at Agenda in New York and we can’t wait until it drops. Seriously one of the coolest shoes they’ve ever made. Expect these to hit retailers July 1st, 2013.
While Kanye West was out with Kim Kardashian having dinner in Miami, a female photographer approached them and asked about Reggie Bush. This made Kanye mad and he grabbed her camera (never touched her). After the incident the photographer was telling her friends that Kanye West tried to “beat her up”. Not sure what’s going to happen with this but it’s not like it has happened before , here’s a look back at what happened in 2008.
Alright this whole sneaker craze is getting a bit out of hand. Apparently artist Wil Fry just released a tee made up of a bunch of miniature Nike Air Yeezy 2′s. Not sure which crazy person is going to buy this shirt but it’s out there. Click HERE for more info.
