There’s those projects that come together and create something magical effortlessly, while still maintaining depth and a great sense of character. The Flavr Blue is just that. The trio consists of singer/songwriters Lace Cadence, Hollis, and producer Parker Joe, coming together to bring us a mixture of luscious vocals over uptempo synths and House production, with a light touch of Lo-Fi influence.
Hollis’ voice shimmers across tracks like “In My Dream,” reminding of something you’d hear from outfits like Late Night Alumni or LA Vampires. Lace is the perfect compliment to Hollis’ dreamy vocals with his assured presence on tracks. “Blame You” is my personal standout track on the album, with a slightly slower tempo than the rest of the project, the song really brings out the most in both vocalists, while simultaneously allowing Parker Joe to work his magic on the production. His versatility is truly proven with this project, most popularly known as a hip-hop producer, he rivals many big name 128-BPM artists with his arsenal of get-up-and-move beats.
